The Year 2022 – Annual Wedding Recap

25/01/2023

Intro

After the tumultuous years that were 2020 and 2021, the past 12 months of 2022 were anything but. The WA border re-opened in March, Covid restrictions eased, and an abundance of weddings were back on! Rarely was there a cancellation or a postponement, and the year allowed my photography to thrive with no less than 40 beautiful weddings.

When you consider, there’s 52 weeks in a year, that is an incredible achievement for a local business such as myself! And I couldn’t be more proud of the work I’d presented to my brides and grooms!

In my 2022 Year In Review, I showcase every couple’s personality and how we worked together to make memories last a lifetime. I sincerely hope you enjoy this year’s collection of wedding photography in and around Perth and South West.

01. Kean and Sabrina’s Ambrose Estate  Wedding on 29 January

First wedding for the 2022 season was that of Sabrina and Kean, who tied the knot on a scorching 38-degree day at Ambrose Estate in Wembley Downs. Having met on Tinder while holidaying in Malaysia, their relationship was meant to be, and despite the heat in the middle of summer, the bride and groom celebrated with all their closest friends and family in a truly beautiful landscape. Their ceremony, bridal photos, and reception were all held at the one location (read the full story here)

02. Olivia and Tyson’s Cottesloe Beach Hotel Wedding on 26 February

It was a dream wedding along the stunning WA coast for bride and groom Olivia and Tyson, who drove 23 hours straight down from Broome in a bid to celebrate their special day with loved ones. The Cottesloe Beach Hotel was the chosen venue for not only their beautifully intimate ceremony but for the reception too, and our bridal shoot was held at a little quaint corner shop and then the stunning and spectular Cottesloe Beach (read the full story here)

03. Mark and Samantha’s Tsunami Teppanyaki Bar Wedding on 9 March

If there’s ever a unique venue for a wedding, it’s the Tsunami Teppanyaki Bar in Mosman Park, where Samantha and Mark celebrated their special day for the reception. The couple were pure bliss to work with, from morning to evening, and they absolutely radiated relationship goals from the minute I met them.

04. Brady and Magdalene’s Perth City Elopement on 22 March

An elopement! Yes, indeed! Magdalene and Brady’s wedding day was an intimate, private elopement in mid-March with the day spent throughout the Perth CBD. We made full use of all the incredible architecture and high-end streets, with the resulting photography looking very cosmopolitan.

05. Elle and Sharman’s Bunkers Beach House Wedding on 26 March

I love a good wedding in regional WA, and Elle and Matt’s was no exception. There was white sand, clear blue water, and a beautifully romantic vibe on their day at Bunkers Beach House in the south west town of Cape Naturaliste. With both Elle and Matt having a complete love of the beach, it was only natural that they said their vows at this stunning venue; I must note, it did rain on the day, but it certainly didn’t dampen the mood – in fact, there’s so much more you can do for photos when it does rain (read the full story here)

06. Brittany and Duncan’s RAC Margaret River Nature Park Wedding on 2 April

Outdoorsy couple Brittany and Duncan held a rustic and elegant wedding in early April where they tied the knot in nature-loving surroundings. The RAC Margaret River Nature Park had everything the bride and groom needed, from cabin accommodation and an outside ceremony venue, to shoreline for bridal photos and an old mill that could easily be turned into a reception locale (read the full story here)

07. Callum and Courtney’s The Olive Estate Wedding on 9 April

The Swan Valley is a beautiful place to have a wedding, and high school sweethearts Callum and Courtney planned to celebrate their nuptials at the Olive Estate, right in the heart of wine region. Taking photographs here was phenomenal, the grandness of such mature trees above us made everything regal, and Callum and Courtney’s personalities 100% matched their rustic theme (read the full story here)

08. Janice and Phil’s Cottesloe Beach Wedding on 16 April

This was a beautifully romantic wedding day for Janice and Phil, who travelled to Perth from the UK to say their vows in front of the bride’s family. Cottesloe Beach was the perfect spot for this couple, and it really couldn’t have been more perfect.

09. Craig and Piya’s Coast Port Beach Fremantle Wedding on 28 April

This was an interesting wedding, even if I do say so myself! Piya and Craig had planned to have a beach ceremony but the morning of saw a bout of high tides and windy weather, so a quick decision was made to have the ceremony at the same venue as their reception – Coast Port Beach in North Fremantle, who were more than obliging! It was also still possible to have their Shell ceremony straight after vows, a Thai tradition called Rod Nam Sang, and it went off without a hitch (read the full story here)

10. Ben and Rebecca’s Old Tower House Wedding on 7 May

Rebecca and Ben had two different venues for their wedding day, with nuptials and document signing at Old Tower House in Northbridge, and their reception held at the stunning Sandalford Wines in Caversham (Swan Valley). When it came to the bridal shoot, we managed to get photos done both in the city and at the winery, providing a stark yet beautiful difference in backdrops.

11. Andrew and Shamiso’s Caversham House Wedding on 14 May

When Zambia and Fiji come together in a stylish, cross-cultural wedding, you can be sure there will be smiles, laughter, a tonne of joy and a universe full of celebration! 14 May saw some light drizzle and an overcast day, but absolutely nothing could dampen Shamiso and Andrew’s wedding. The bridal couple were so fantastic to work with, both easing into their roles in front of the camera, making my job that much easier (read the full story here)

12. Chandlar and Enrico’s Holy Rosary Catholic Church Nedlands / Duxton Hotel Wedding on 21 May

So Chandlar and Enrico were a fun couple to photograph! A Venezuelan and an Australian tying the knot at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Nedlands, then partying the night away at the very suave and elegant Duxton Hotel in the Perth CBD. Couldn’t have been a more amazing day for the bridal couple – their smiles speak for themselves!

13. John and Sally’s New Life City Church Kewdale Wedding on 28 May 2022

With the ceremony held at New Life City Church in Kewdale and celebrations at the Pagoda Resort & Spa in Como, Sally and John’s wedding day couldn’t have been more perfect in late May. The bridal couple were lovely to work with, and we got some incredible cosmopolitan-style shots during the bridal shoot.

14. Anthony and Rachel’s St Michael The Archangel Chapel Wedding on 2 July

Even though the weather starts to really cool down in July, weddings are still very much planned for the colder months. Rachel and Anthony hosted their ceremony in front of loved ones at St Michael The Archangel Chapel in Leederville, then followed their guests to celebrate and party the night away at Sandalford Wines in Caversham (Swan Valley). Taking photographs around the chapel is brilliant when it comes to architecture and capturing all the details within its walls.

15. John and FonFon’s Baan Baan Thai Restaurant Wedding on 15 July

Palida and John may have officially gotten married in Thailand, but 15 July was their celebration in Perth to share marital bliss with friends and family. A celebration with all their loved ones was held at the Baan Baan Thai Restaurant in the Perth CBD.

The bridal shoot was also held in the CBD, and it was back to the Ritz-Carlton for an all-night party with family and friends (read the full story here)

18. Aaron and Kahli’s Chapel Farm Estate Wedding on 19 August

How cute were these two?! Kahli and Aaron’s entire wedding day was held at Chapel Farm Estate in Middle Swan, from ceremony to reception. For all the rustic charm you could ever ask for, this wedding was intimate, delightful, joyous and full of glorious charm. Kahli and Aaron’s wedding was a sheer pleasure to photograph.

Living in Melbourne, and after many postponements due to Covid restrictions, Emily and David finally made their way over to Perth where they could tie the knot at St Matthew’s Church in Guildford. Their classically romantic wedding saw the bridal photoshoot and reception held at Mandoon Estate in Caversham (Swan Valley), providing the most beautiful backdrop for this lovely couple.

20. Dina and Jason’s The Vines Resort Wedding on 26 August

The Vines Resort in The Vines, north-east of Perth, is a fabulous venue for a wedding. You can have everything done in the one spot – from accommodation and ceremony, to bridal shoot and reception. 21. Dylan and Kora’s Rebel Rebel Wedding Chapel Wedding on Sunday, 4 September

If a Las Vegas-style chapel wedding doesn’t float your boat – it will now once you see the photos! Kora and Dylan took the plunge and got hitched at Rebel Rebel Wedding Chapel in Northbridge on 4 September, and the colours absolutely pop in their photo album! With just a couple days notice to photograph them, these lovebirds had the best vibe and I couldn’t have been happier to have said ‘yes’ to capturing their wedding day (read the full story here)

23. Benjamin and Tiziana’s Homestead Gardens Nursery Gingin Wedding on 24 September

Well this was certainly a fun filled wedding! Originally from the UK, Tiziana and Benjamin opted for a Hawaiian-themed wedding at Homestead Gardens Nursery in Gingin where thongs, summer dresses and Hawaiian shirts were all the rage.

24. Lewis and Samantha’s Madoon Estate Wedding on 25 September

Samantha and Lewis opted for a timeless, classic theme for their late September wedding, where they could celebrate with all their family and friends at the one venue – Mandoon Estate in Caversham. It was a beautiful touch that groom Lewis wore white, just like his bride, putting his spin on their special day but still keeping things traditional.

25. Alex and Cecilia’s Pagoda Resort Wedding on 1 October

I’m a complete sucker for a cross-cultural wedding! Cecilia, of Portugese-Eurasian descent (and from Malaysia), and Aussie Alex tied the knot at Sacret Heart Church in Thornlie and then partied with all their loved ones at the Pagoda Resort & Spa in Como. These two were, and are, so made for each other, you can feel the vibe just by looking at them in the photos!

26. Calla and Stuart’s Noble River Estate Wedding on 8 October

The location for Calla and Stuart’s wedding in early October was 100% next level! Noble River Estate, down south in Dwellingup, provided the lovebirds with the ideallic ‘summer camp’ theme in the great Aussie outdoors. Definitely in my top 10 list of photographic locations for weddings, Calla and Stuart stunned guests with the venue, and were a great couple to work with.

27. Christopher and Elizabeth’s Optus Stadium Wedding on 15 October

A charming inner-city wedding, Elizabeth and Christopher’s day at Perth Town Hall and Optus Stadium was unique in more ways than one. For starters…all I have to say is, Optus Stadium! Perth Town Hall was the couple’s venue of choice for nuptials, and because of the location we were super close to where they wanted the photoshoot – the Como Hotel, St George’s Anglican Cathedral, and the Supreme Court building. Optus Stadium was reserved for the reception, and wow – if you’re keen for an out-of-this-world party venue, this is it (read the full story here)

An intimate and colourful wedding at Olive Estate in Henley Brook, the Swan Valley, bridal couple Chelsea and Hannah declared their love for one another in front of family and friends, celebrating every piece of their day at the one venue. 34. Cameron and Celina’s Fremantle Prison Wedding on 26 November

If it’s unique and quirky you’re after, than a wedding at Fremantle Prison might just do the trick! 40. Lucia and Matthew’s West Leederville Backyard NYE Wedding on 31 December

What better way to end the year than with a backyard wedding on New Years Eve?! Lucia and Matthew did things differently, by having their ceremony and reception right in their own backyard, and it was just such a great day. Together with photos done around the neighbourhood, it was a fantastic way to celebrate the last day of 2022.

Summary

It was a brilliant 2022, and I’d like to thank all my couples for each opportunity to photograph your wedding. The year brought with it some really unique celebrations, and I’m excited to see where 2023 will take me and my upcoming brides and grooms.
