Planning a wedding comes with enough decisions already. Here are straightforward answers to the questions couples ask me most—from choosing your coverage and reserving the date to planning for wet weather and receiving your finished gallery.

1. Before You Book
FINDING THE RIGHT FIT
The questions couples usually ask while choosing their photographer and coverage.
My style is primarily candid and documentary, with an editorial influence during couple portraits and detail photographs.
I capture genuine moments as they naturally happen while paying attention to light, composition and movement. When a little direction will create a stronger photograph, I’ll step in without making the moment feel staged.
For most of the wedding day, I quietly capture candid moments without interrupting what is happening.
During family photographs and couple portraits, I’ll help place you in flattering light and use simple prompts to create natural interaction. You’ll never be left wondering what to do, but I also won’t force you into stiff or uncomfortable poses.
Absolutely. Most of my couples tell me they don’t feel comfortable being photographed.
I keep everything relaxed, give you easy prompts and help you focus on each other. You don’t need to know how to pose—that’s my job.
Yes. I have experience working with autistic, ADHD, anxious and sensory-sensitive couples.
You don’t need to disclose a diagnosis. Simply let me know what helps you feel comfortable—such as clear instructions, extra processing time, fewer people around, quiet breaks or avoiding physical touch. I’ll adapt my approach so the experience feels relaxed and manageable.
Yes. A pre-wedding session is a great opportunity to create photographs for your invitations, wedding website or save-the-date cards.
It also gives you a chance to become familiar with how I photograph and direct you before the wedding.
You’ll learn what to expect, feel more comfortable in front of the camera and arrive on your wedding day already knowing that being photographed can be relaxed and fun.
Pre-wedding sessions can be added to your wedding package, and I can help you choose a Perth location that suits your style.
It depends on your schedule and which parts of the day matter most to you.
Shorter coverage may include your ceremony, family photographs and couple portraits. Longer coverage allows time for preparations, reception formalities, speeches and the dance floor.
Send me your plans and I’ll recommend a realistic amount of coverage without trying to squeeze you into the wrong package.
Yes. If your plans don’t fit neatly into one of my standard packages, I can prepare a custom quote.
Smaller weddings, registry ceremonies, elopements and extended celebrations are all welcome.
Your date is officially reserved once the online agreement has been signed and the 30% booking retainer has been paid.
Your second instalment is due six months before the wedding, with the remaining balance due two weeks before your wedding day.
The 30% booking retainer is non-refundable because it reserves your date exclusively, and I may turn away other enquiries for the same day.
If you need to postpone your wedding, please contact me as soon as possible. I’ll do my best to transfer your booking to another available date, subject to the terms of your agreement.
Yes. When you book Dennis Tan Creative, I will be your principal photographer.
If your package includes a second photographer, they will work alongside me. The only exception would be a serious illness or emergency, in which case I would arrange the most suitable experienced replacement available.
Not every wedding needs one.
A second photographer can be helpful if you are getting ready in separate locations, have a large guest list, want additional ceremony angles or have several important moments happening at the same time.
Second-photographer coverage is included in selected packages and can also be added when needed.
2. Planning Your Wedding Day
GETTING READY
Timelines, venues, rain plans and the practical things that help everything run smoothly.
Yes. I’ll help create a practical photography run sheet based on your ceremony, locations, travelling time and sunset.
I’ll also organise your family-photo list into an efficient order so you can spend less time waiting around and more time enjoying your wedding.
Possibly—I’ve photographed weddings at many venues throughout Perth, the Swan Valley and the South West.
If it’s my first time at your venue, that isn’t a problem. I’ll research and scout the location before the wedding where practical, checking the light, access, portrait locations, wet-weather options and any photography permits.
This preparation means I’ll arrive with a plan while still being open to spontaneous opportunities on the day.
Rain doesn’t automatically mean bad wedding photographs. I’m confident photographing in wet weather and, when conditions allow, rain can create dramatic, atmospheric and genuinely epic images.
I’ll monitor the forecast, bring suitable lighting, look for covered locations and help you prepare a backup plan. Perth weather can change quickly, so we’ll keep the schedule flexible and make the most of whatever the day brings.
Yes. I photograph weddings throughout Perth, the South West and beyond.
Travel within the Perth metropolitan area is generally included. Additional travel fees may apply to locations more than 30 kilometres from Churchlands. Accommodation, venue permits and parking fees may also apply, and these will always be explained in your quote.
It’s extremely rare, but I have a trusted network of experienced professional photographers who may be able to step in during a genuine emergency.
I would still manage the process and personally edit your photographs in my usual style. If a suitable replacement cannot be arranged, any refund would be handled according to the terms of your agreement.
Yes. I photograph weddings using professional Canon equipment and carry backup cameras, lenses, memory cards, lighting and batteries.
Your photographs are also carefully backed up after the wedding.
Absolutely. I support all kinds of love.
Your identity, culture and traditions will always be photographed with care and respect.
I specialise in wedding photography and don’t currently provide videography as an in-house service.
However, I’ve worked alongside several talented Perth wedding videographers and would be happy to recommend someone whose style suits your plans.
Your photographer and videographer would be booked separately, but I’m always happy to coordinate with them so both teams work smoothly from the same wedding-day schedule.
Yes. I hold current public liability insurance and can provide a certificate of currency to your wedding venue if requested.
f my coverage continues through the reception and meal service, please provide a vendor meal for me and any second photographer.
Ideally, we should be served at the same time as you and your guests. This allows us to eat while everyone else is eating and be ready when speeches or other formalities begin.
3. Your Finished Photographs
AFTER THE WEDDING
Editing, delivery, privacy, albums and keeping your photographs safe for the future.
Most weddings receive approximately 70–100 fully edited images for each hour of coverage.
The final number depends on your schedule, guest count and how much is happening throughout the day. Smaller and registry packages may include a specified number of images.
You’ll normally receive a small selection of sneak peeks within 24–72 hours.
Your complete wedding gallery will be delivered within approximately 8–12 weeks.
Every delivered photograph is individually edited for colour, exposure, cropping and consistency with my signature style.
Basic editing is included. More extensive portrait retouching or image manipulation can be arranged separately if required.
I don’t automatically reshape bodies or make people look artificially slimmer.
Instead, I use flattering light, angles and relaxed direction to help you look your best while still looking like yourself. More extensive retouching can be arranged separately upon request.
No. RAW files are unfinished working files and don’t represent the final quality of my work.
You’ll receive professionally edited, high-resolution JPEG files ready to download, print and share.
Your photographs will be delivered through a private online gallery with both high-resolution and web-sized downloads.
Your wedding gallery will remain online for six months. I strongly recommend downloading and backing up everything as soon as your gallery is delivered.
Your private online gallery will remain available for six months after delivery.
I may also retain an internal archive of your finished photographs for up to 36 months, but permanent storage cannot be guaranteed. Please keep copies in at least two separate locations, such as an external drive and cloud storage.
Contact me and I’ll check whether your photographs are still available in my archive.
If they can be recovered, an archive retrieval and gallery restoration fee may apply. Photographs cannot be guaranteed after the original six-month gallery period or beyond my archive-retention period, so keeping your own backups is essential.
Yes. I offer professionally designed wedding albums, fine-art prints and keepsake products.
Selected wedding packages may already include prints or a keepsake box, and additional products can be ordered after your gallery is delivered.
For wedding albums, you’ll receive a digital design proof and can request up to two rounds of revisions before it is approved for printing.

Absolutely. Your privacy is important.
I can customise the agreement so your photographs remain private and are not used on my website, social media, advertising or competitions without your written permission.
Yes. When a photograph suits black and white—particularly an emotional moment, dramatic portrait or image with beautiful light—I may include an additional black-and-white version in your gallery.
The original colour photograph will still be included, so the black-and-white image is an extra rather than a replacement.
4. Practical Details
PAYMENTS & CHANGES
A few final things about payments, additional time and changing your plans.
Payment can be made by bank transfer or online credit card payment.
Credit card payments may incur a 2.9% processing fee. All payment details and due dates will be shown clearly on your invoice.
Yes, subject to availability.
You can usually add extra coverage before the wedding once your schedule is finalised. If you decide you need me to stay longer on the wedding day, I’ll also do my best to accommodate it.
Please contact me as soon as you know your plans may be changing.
Your booking may be transferred to another available date, subject to the postponement terms in your agreement. Additional fees may apply if the new date or location changes the original booking requirements.
