Perth Aloft Hotel Wedding

Rooftop Romance for Emma and David

If you’ve been dreaming of “I do’s” in one of the most romantic settings, you’re about to swoon over Emma and David’s sophisticated wedding in the heart of Perth on September 27, 2019.

Both sides of the bridal party prepared for the big day at the Aloft Perth Hotel, where the happy couple got their dream wedding thanks to a refined and modern location with abundant views storming the horizon.

There were no keeping things small for Emma, with five bridesmaids gathering and toasting the bride, all in their matching bathrobes and really making it a day to remember. There was an incredible amount of light coming through the large windows of the hotel during this time of day, and like all good wedding photographers I took as many advantages as I could get, and Emma was more than accommodating when it came to positioning.

For something a little bit different, Emma had requested that her First Look opportunity be with her dad instead of the groom, and what a special moment that was. Happy tears were imminent, and it was certainly unforgettable for the two of them; Emma radiant in her form-fitting gown, her dad in his navy blue suit with lilac tie.

David also prepared at the Aloft Perth Hotel with his groomsmen (also a decent sized group!) where the whiskey flowed and the party was just beginning. There were some phenomenal, clean lines made by the décor and architecture of the venue, and this gave me an opportunity to utilise the ‘leading lines’ technique of composition – drawing attention to lines that lead to the main subject of the image. It made for stunning individual photos of David that made everything crisp, cosmopolitan, and with a fair bit of depth added to them.

Emma and David celebrated the day with their ceremony at the hotel, but on the Rooftop Terrace which boasts incredible views of Perth city, Swan River and the hills to the east. So much thought went into every detail for their nuptials, and it was clear the location – which would also double as the venue for the reception – was carefully chosen for its sophistication and class. An intimate affair, Emma looked picture perfect as she walked down the aisle with her father by her side, and David’s face was adorned with tears of joy when he spotted her for the first time.

The weather didn’t disappoint either, as you can tell by the sensational blue of the sky, and despite some shadows falling on the guests and bridal party, the photos turned out exactly how I wanted them to.

When it came to bridal photos, Emma and David chose to stay in the hotel for a little while before heading out to John Oldham Park in Perth, just 10kms from their venue. The newlyweds were incredibly easy to work with, very comfortable in front of the lens as they happily posed for as many images as they could. The location was ideal in conditions, in that it was effortless for me to utilise the large size of the bridal party into fun and amusing photos.

Back to the reception, up on the Rooftop again, the festivities were just getting started. Again, every minor detail was clear and classic, from a bespoke picture of the happy couple everyone could sign, to the carefully colour-designed macarons and cupcake tower. But because of the time of day, sunset was looming, and the three of us snuck out of the reception to take photos outside while the golden hour was abundant.

Once speeches were made with not a dry eye in the house, a surprise for David came out of the woodwork as Emma performed the love song ‘You get my love’ by Pink – needless to say, she wowed David and every single one of her guests with her rendition!

The cake was cut, and the night truly kicked off in style with the bridal waltz (featuring amazing little fireworks) and guests heading for a boogey on the dance floor.  I wish Emma and David all the happiness in the world for their future lives together, it was truly an honour to photograph their special day and be a part of it all.
