Best places to take Wedding & Engagement photos in Perth

From the country to the coastline, we are lucky that Perth is a beautiful city offering inspiring locations for your engagement and wedding photography. I often get asked by my clients, when we first meet, where the best areas are, so revealing my favourite spots here is a great way to showcase the vast array of options available for your Perth engagement or Perth wedding shoot.

Here are the locations in and around our beautiful city where you are bound to get the engagement and wedding photographs you have dreamed of.

CENTRAL PERTH

Perth CBD

The city itself provides gorgeous city street charm, especially in and around Elizabeth Quay for fabulous urban engagement and wedding photographs both day and night. The Perth CBD provides an incredible metropolitan feel with its building angles, lane ways, and business streets.

Blue Boatshed

A popular landmark sitting on the Swan River just below Kings Park, the 1930s blue boatshed is an iconic bathhouse which has been revamped and repainted to create a stunning backdrop for engagement and wedding photographs in Perth.

Bold Park

City Beach

Relaxed and low-key is the best way to describe City Beach with its beautiful expanse of white sand and aqua blue Indian Ocean waters, ideal for the couple who love life at the beach and want their wedding photography to show it.

John Oldham Park

For engagement and wedding photographs close to Perth, but when you want lush waterfalls and lawns, John Oldham Park features backdrops for those who love being active in the great outdoors without leaving the urban suburbs.

Kings Park

The iconic destination that is Kings Park has a variety of beautiful areas, where you can choose between abundant green lawns featuring the spectacular Perth city skyline and specialty botanical gardens.

South Perth Foreshore

For riverside green space with city skyline views and boat access, the South Perth foreshore gives you about four kilometres of north facing foreshore to play with. For iconic Perth engagement and wedding photography, this is one place you need to check out.

University of Western Australia

It’s easy to see why the University of Western Australia is a popular venue for wedding photography in Perth. With its iconic bell tower, soaring arches and grand colonnades, the paths and gardens at UWA are the perfect backdrop for engagement and wedding shoots.

More stunning photos of UWA can be found here.

PERTH HILLS / SWAN VALLEY

Bells Rapids

For the best of what nature has to offer, Bell’s Rapids is the ideal location with its walk trails and bush scenery whilst in the winter time the river flows, providing your engagement or wedding photography in Perth a wonderous backdrop.

Guildford

The suburb of Guildford was one of the first three towns in the Swan River Colony, along with Perth and Fremantle), established back in 1829. Some of the surviving properties create a rare urban pattern and are in fantastic condition, allowing for storytelling at its finest when it comes to wedding photography.

Please check out the story of Chloe and Peta which was held in Guildford.

John Forrest National Park

One of Perth’s favourite outing spots, John Forrest National Park is the perfect bush escape and is the state’s oldest national park. This location has so much opportunity for wedding photographs to be taken amongst gigantic Jarrah and Marri trees, along little creeks, and on shining boulders.

Here are more photos of John Forrest Natioal Park here.

Kalamunda Zig Zag

Just east of Perth, this is a popular destination with the many visitors coming up to the Zig Zag to enjoy the views.

Swan Valley

The wine region of the Swan Valley can truly seduce you with its fusion of wine, food and scenic properties that will take your breath away. Get in amongst the vineyards or stock paddocks for glorious engagement and wedding photography.

Please check out the Wedding of Shine and Eve which was held at the beautiful Swan Valley.

NORTH OF THE RIVER

Iluka Beach

This small but idyllic location is popular for enjoying a sunset picnic or a dip in the beach’s crystal clear waters thanks to a pristine environment with a lookout and foreshore park to enjoy.

Neil Hawkins Park

Although more known for its children’s playground, don’t underestimate Neil Hawkins Park in Lake Joondalup. The park features a gorgeous little jetty to the water’s edge, and the wild birds have been known to happily perch on people’s arms while taking food.

Wanneroo Pine Forest

One of my most popular locations for engagement or wedding photographs in Perth, Wanneroo Pine Forest has it all. It’s one of Perth’s best kept secrets, and for many, the most beautiful.

Yanchep National Park

Thanks to its luscious green bushland and picturesque lake, Yanchep National Park provides engagement and wedding photography that will take your breath away. For perfect images, stretch your legs along a nature trail or take advantage of one of the romantic picnic spots.

Yellagonga National Park

This hidden gem in the northern suburbs provides tranquillity and an abundance of parkland. The dominant landscape feature is the area’s wetlands with gorgeous backdrops, including some colonial buildings that make for amazing storytelling.

SOUTH OF THE RIVER

Bibra Lake

Long regarded as one of the southern suburbs’ favourite recreational spots, Bibra Lake Reserve has a variety of shady places as you make your way around the lake. A stunning location for unique engagement and wedding photos.

Cottesloe Beach

You can’t get any more iconic than Cottesloe Beach, and despite its popularity in the warmer months, it is still a photographic destination that will make for beautiful images.

Fremantle

A unique destination with wall murals, art galleries, markets, vintage doors and ocean views, Fremantle will provide you with the best opportunities for stunning wedding photography. From Esplanade Park to the Round House, and Containbow to St Patrick’s Basilica, you’ll walk away from Fremantle with exactly what you’re wanting.

OUTSIDE OF PERTH

Busselton

Twice voted WA’s top tourism town, Busselton’s iconic jetty was built in 1865 and still stands today atop tranquil waters and white sandy beaches. This part of the state along the Indian Ocean gives couples ample opportunity to explore the shoreline and its pretty city.

Sugarloaf Rock

Want a spectacular sight for your wedding photography? Sugarloaf Rock, in Cape Naturaliste, is an impressive location with breathtaking views. The best part about Sugarloaf Rock is that visiting it is amazing any time of the year.
